A win and other news!

Hello, dear friends!

Happy news! My new Style Educator bio is now live on Stilista’s site! My darling boyfriend took this photo. I was having a particularly good good hair day, and threw on an ensemble that I (hoped) bridged the gap between my  more urban predilection and a vaguely professional look:

Natori hammered silk batwing jacket; Express blue satin tank; Banana Republic jeans

He’s a pretty darn good photographer in addition to being an excellent musician, I’d say!

Also! I recently won ModCloth‘s Styling Contest put on by the ModStylists. I absolutely adore ModCloth’s selection of vintage-y clothing, accessories, and housewares by an amazing selection of independent designers, and it was a total dream to win! The directive was to pick one of two predetermined Modcloth dresses and style it via collating links or using Polyvore and explain your styling choices. So I went crazy in Polyvore and wrote a fairytale about my outfit using the product names.

Here’s my styleboard:

And this week, I am featured on the Barefoot Tess Facebook page! BFT is an online shoe retailer that stocks designer sizes up to 14…which means I can get my Corso Comos and Farylrobins reliably in a size 11 or 12. Tall girls everywhere rejoice!

Happy Thanksgiving! Much <3 to you and yours!

Swapaholics Outfit

Tonight I attended the Swapaholics event in downtown Boston. It was my first swap meet, and based on what I had heard, I was all ready to fend for my life in the mad, soul-and-body-crushing race for clothing piles— but it ended up being an amazingly low-key evening full of lots of camaraderie between participants, and was just generally a good ol’ time. My coworker and I made out well…even picking out clothing  that we knew the other would like. I wasn’t expecting much being that pants are usually out; skirts are usually out; and cute dresses are usually out (I’m really tall!) but I did say hi to my two favorite Boston bloggers….Julie of Orchid Grey, and Jen of Jen Loves Kev. Really nice girls and both even cuter in real life! :) And great job, Amy and Melissa!
Here’s what I wore:

BDG cardigan; Lucca Couture floral prairie dress; Deena & Ozzy belt; Simply Vera Vera Wang lacy tights; BC Footwear clog ankle boots; bullet necklace; F21 cocktail ring

My look is becoming more and more grunge-inspired with time, but the slightly gritty, urban look of the 90s suits my aesthetic perfectly (and did I ever mention how much I love Pixies, Guided by Voices, and Reality Bites?) More outfits to come!

My apologies!

It looks like I up and left this poor blog for good! You might swear that the tumbleweeds set in and dust started to settle and cake on the edges of these pages. But I am still here, albeit very, very behind…in short, I am still due to post movie outfit pictures! Tomorrow, I promise! I may throw in some book-inspired outfits too for good measure…

My excuses are these: have been terribly busy at work; have been terribly busy with freelance projects; was terribly busy on Halloween; have been helping the boy with a big art project; and recently got sick ( for days, all I could manage were the occasional muttering moans, pets for the cats, and trips downstairs to hazily prepare cups of tea.) But I am going to try hard to get this little blog up to speed once again. It’s The Little Blog That Could! Choo choo!

And now, some cat cuteness! I am so lucky to cuddle with these little fuzzballs day in, day out…

Weekly Style Challenge #2

I’ve  fallen a bit off the “new style every day” bandwagon what with the changing of the seasons and a string of late nights at work, but one of the most charming ladies I know, S.C., has suggested a crop of outfit photos inspired by favorite movies…and I LOVE the idea!  Here’s a preview of one of my favorites that I’ll work off of. I’m probably terribly predictable in my taste in movies (being that fairytales, stunning sets, light and costuming wizardry get me every time), but I may throw a few curveballs too! Okay, likely not. But I most certainly won’t chose (500) Days of Summer, or anything else with Zooey Deschanel OR Natalie Portman OR Kirsten Dunst or any other “manic pixie dream girl” because you, my dear readers, would expect that I would, wouldn’t you?

About a week late, but…

Day 3 of Weekly Style Challenge #1! This time, cobalt-blue tights and red lipstick paired with a black sweaterdress and my lovely-beyond-lovely Highland Reel Coat from Knitted Dove/Modcloth. As anyone who knows me at all knows, I can’t RESIST ruffles. The bigger and more ostentatious, the better! I couldn’t have designed a coat that is more me! Can I have it in a lush forest green, or perhaps a rusty red too? Sigh…

Knitted Dove ruffled tweed overcoat via Modcloth; Kensie black sweaterdress; Hue tights; Steve Madden black ankle boots

Vera Wang Lavender Label striped cardigan; Express blue charmeuse tank; Traffic People storybook necklace; Hanna and Gracie black skirt; Deena and Ozzy belt, Urban Outfitters; Corso Como red heels, H&M ring

If you caught me out in the woods posed in this ensemble, you might expect me to ask, “Have you seen my traveling caravan?  I lost them after our  last performance!” :)

Vintage fascinator headband, Etsy; Traffic People storybook necklace; Vintage ruffle blouse, thrifted; Simply Vera Vera Wang gold satin bubble skirt; Steve Madden ankle boots

The combination of yellow, black, and cream is one of my favorites. And I especially love how the bright sunlight blows out the colors of the outfit to make the whole scene seem very fairytale-ish and surreal…
